
Andrew T. Wainwright is the founder and CEO of Assistance in Recovery (AiR) and a nationally recognized expert on addictions and intervention. He is a frequent guest on CNN’s America Morning and author of the book It’s Not Okay to Be a Cannibal – How to Stop Addiction from Eating Your Family Alive.
Andrew was educated at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, CMRS, Keble College Oxford, Georgetown University, eventually receiving his Masters degree in English Literature from Catholic University in Washington, DC. In 1995 he sought help for his alcoholism and drug addiction at the Hazelden Foundation in Minnesota.
In 1997 Andrew was employed and trained by the renowned Dr. James Fearing, a pioneer in the field of addiction intervention. Dr. Fearing is credited with continuing and nationalizing the work of Dr. Vernon Johnson founder of the Johnson Institute and the modern practice of alcohol and drug intervention.
Upon the death of Dr. Fearing in 2002 Andrew founded the organization know today as Assistance in Recovery (AiR). Building upon the work of Dr. Johnson and Dr. Fearing AiR has grown to become the nation’s leading behavioral health consulting company providing consulting, intervention, and recovery management services in all 50 states and around the world.
Unwilling to accept the status quo and impatient to improve rates of recovery for behavioral health related illness, Andrew is a tireless advocate for advancement of treatment modalities in the behavioral health industry.
Andrew makes his home in St. Paul, Minnesota with his lovely wife Jaclyn and their two Kangal dogs Ajax and Ayla.
